The Solvay group has decided to participate in the task of rebuilding decent living conditions along the Indian Ocean coastlines. Looking beyond the horror of 220,000 fatalities and the emergency actions already undertaken by NGOs and governments, millions of people now need aid which is well structured and conceived in terms of their future needs.

Solvay, as a citizen enterprise, intends to play its part. It will give preference to concrete initiatives which respond to a precisely identified need.  The Executive Committee has decided to assign an amount of EUR 250 000 to help orphans or children in need, through selected local organizations and with the assistance of Solvay’s subsidiaries in the areas concerned.
